An American fighter pilot, Tom Coyle, volunteers to fly for the French military during the Indochina War. “Just cargo and troops, no combat” that is the deal. But things rarely go as planned…French commander Major Marcel Bigeard is the fittest man in the army, eats raw onions for breakfast, and has courage beyond reason. He leads his brigade of elite paratroopers into the Muong Thanh Valley, far from French supply lines. A dilapidated airfield is rebuilt into a fortified air bridge – the paratroopers’ lifeline and only means of escape. The French garrison is a tempting target for Ho Chi Minh and his General Vo Nguyen Giap, considered the most brilliant military strategist of his time. To win, they will need to achieve the most remarkable engineering feat of the 20th century before the French can slip awayBut the French aren’t going anywhere. They want the rebels to attack…The Viet Minh and French paratroopers square off in a winner-take-all battle in this unforgettable epic based on actual events and real people. Book We Stand Alone: A Vietnam War Novel (The Airmen Series Book 3) Review :

Not a bad read...I'd give it a C+ overall. But for a series called "The Airmen" I expected a lot more in historical and aviation accuracy. This centers around the Battle for Dien Bien Phu in Vietnam circa 1954. Here's some examples of the gripes I have regarding the aircraft portrayed in the book. C-47: the cabin was not pressurized. P-38 Lightning: they were retired by the USAF 5 years before Dien Bien Phu. Thus there were no P-38 fighters to be sent from the Phillipines and certainly none participated in the 1954 battle. Oh and the P-38 guns were not "wing mounted", they were all in the nose. F8F Bearcat: reference was made to the pilot manipulating "the yoke". Of course the F8F had a traditional fighter joystick, not a yoke. C-119: One passage made reference to the pilots climbing by "pushing" on the elevators. That would be a pull of course. Overall perhaps minor details but if your going to name a series "the Airman" suggest you get an aviation consultant next time. Submitted by a 26 year USAF pilot
1953, Hanoi, China. A French General intends to end the Indochina war. 15,000 parachute troops go into Vietnam as a decoy.Tom Coyle (American pilot) flies for the French AF.His contract is somewhat misleading.Thinks don’t go as planned & he meets Brigitte Friang (French war correspondent). They soon begin a romance. The Viet Minh forces could change both their lives.I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written Indochina War historical book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a huge set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great Indochina War movie, or better yet a mini TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.Thank you for the free author; Bookzio; Telos LLC; Amazon Digital Services LLC.; bookTony Parsons MSW (Washburn)
